I enjoyed creating this unusual dish, which you can use as a practical item to sit on a table or bureau, or as a decorative piece as just the thing to bring colour to a room or living space.

It's approx 15 cm square. I made it by firstly cutting two pieces of sheet glass to size, the clear glass base layer and a blue opalescent primary layer. I then carefully selected and cut out the 27 individual pieces of coloured opalescent glass that make up the design, and arranged them in 9 motifs with 3 pieces in each in descending order of size. Taking great care these were then transferred to the kiln and fused at high temperature. The coloured glass 'melts' into the primary layer to form a smooth surface, and if you run your fingers over the top surface of the dish you might think that they were all one piece of glass. 

After cooling the whole piece is returned to the kiln and slumped into a specially shaped mould to achieve the final dished shape. It is then hand-finished to remove any sharp edges and polished to make it into the delightful, glossy and colourful finished piece. It's lovely and funky, and would look great on a kitchen table, or display in your favourite spot.
